Update: The series definitely got better as it went on, the violence evened out a bit gender-wise and I found myself keen to keep watching though the rubber suited figure did feature in a nightmare I had.

American Horror Story
After 'Breaking Bad' ends... what is one to watch?
American Horror Story (just finished Season 1) promises to fill that gap. It does have some compelling imagery/scenes/ideas, but I couldn't help thinking there were extra dollops of gratuitous violence, particularly against women (right on trend) and some 'weird' for the sake of weird.
